Calico Cut-Ups Quilt Challenge for 2010
Christmas/Holiday Stockings

The Christmas/Holiday Stocking Quilt Challenge for 2010 is an opportunity to showcase your creative, artistic and quilting talents. Participants are encouraged to try new or different techniques for the stockings, especially unique quilting techniques.

  • All or at least some part of the stocking must be quilted.
  • Fabrics, embellishments and colors of your choice.
  • Embellishments may include appliqué, pleats, tucks, embroidery, cross stitching or other creative applications.
  • Patterns or kits may be used and adaptations are encouraged.
  • Stockings should be 30 inches or less in length and 20 inches or less in width.
  • Each participant may enter up to three stockings for the Challenge.
Themes and styles for stockings are unlimited:
  • Traditional or artistic.
  • Family, children, babies or friends.
  • Military, graduation or special honors.
  • Hobbies – sewing, quilting, fishing, golfing etc.
  • Styles – high heels, cowboy boots, ice skates etc.
  • Other creative ideas.

Judging will be based on:

  • Originality
  • Creativity
  • Workmanship

Completed stockings will be displayed and judged at the November 2010 Calico Cut-Ups meeting. Awards will include 1st Place ($25), 2nd Place ($20), 3rd Place ($15) and 4th Place ($10).

Stockings will be returned to the quilter after the Challenge. However, the stockings may be donated to local charities, if desired. Also, additional stockings may be donated by Calico Cut-Ups members not participating in the Quilt Challenge. The Quilt Challenge Committee will coordinate the donation of stockings with local charities, based on the type of stockings donated and needs of charities.
